Channel
Nine's "Talk to the Animals" propagating myths about the fate
of "surplus" greyhounds from the Greyhound Racing industry
12/07/05
Help
urgently needed now!
Today (July 8) Channel Nine's Australian TV show "Talk to the Animals"
had a segment about greyhound adoption and the Greyhound Racing industry.
Sadly "Talk to the Animals" did not present the facts of the
issue and gave the impression that the industry rehomes all greyhounds
that are not suitable racers. This of course is far from the truth.
Sadly "Talk to the Animals" has just reinforced this myth
to the Australian public.
Please
contact "Talk to the Animals" email : info@talktotheanimals.com.au
and point out a few facts about the Australian greyhound racing industry
& the fate of "surplus" greyhounds -
1) Greyhound adoption rates in Australia are
extremely low.
2) 1/3 of greyhounds are killed each year, thats 1,500 a year alone
die in Queensland by the age of 5.
3) Many "surplus" greyhounds who do not show promise as racers
are sent to universities for experimentation and then killed.
4) Many "owners" can't be bothered paying for a vet to kill
the greyhound so often they are killed by extremely cruel methods. Many
greyhound racing owners refer to these greyhounds as "wastage".
5) Greyhounds are often given hormones and steroids.
Greyhound racing should be banned. In the USA, approximately 20 states
have banned greyhound racing already and it is totally banned in South
Africa. You may wish to point out a few sites dedicated to this issue
