| Low
attendances forces Brighton and Hove to drop their midweek meeting
from www.greytexploitations.com 25.08.09 |
Brighton
and Hove stadium have announced tonight’s Tuesday meeting
will be the last, leaving the number of evening meetings held to
just two nights a week.
The
dog track is one of two owned by Corals bookmakers and on this
occasion, the lucrative daytime BAGS races, which are held purely
for gambling purposes, could not justify subsidising the loss
making evening meeting.
Newly
appointed head of stadia David Macdonald, said it was purely a
commercial decision.
“Tuesday
racing has not been popular for a while. I spoke to bookmakers,
owners, trainers and there’s no appetite for the Tuesday
meeting. It was time to pull the plug. It will affect some of
the staff but we’re in consultation with them and trying
to make up their hours.”
The
Argus newspaper article makes no mention of what measures are
being taken to re-home any surplus dogs but it does serve to remind
us there are many greyhounds nationwide, needing loving homes.
Please contact your nearest re-homing centre if you can offer
a temporary or permanent sofa to one of these gentle and graceful
creatures – they make wonderful companions!

"........Are
we forgetting some little old place called Deneholme here? For the
poor old mutt that needs retiring? ........ What we should be encouraging
is the chasing up of £3,000 that is outstanding to Deneholme
in unpaid kennels bills from loving owners! We have been lucky enough
to home around 150 dogs in a year through this service that is available
and some ar**holes don't pay the bills........Sorry but when people
who know the score about the game cr*p on a fantastic service that
is offered to them it really gets my back up!"
Greyhound
Action comment:
Deneholme is a retirement kennels set up to try to find homes for
ex-racing greyhounds from the Brighton & Hove track. This shows
the lack of care that some greyhound "owners" have for
their dogs, in that they are not prepared to pay Deneholme the costs
of looking after their dogs when their racing days are over.

"There
have been several incidents at Sunderland with this large box they
trip the hare into at the knock off. Last night's was the most serious.
A small bitch dived in after the rabbit and it took twenty minutes
to free it from this box and hare rail. As it was the last race
only the staff and trainers witnessed it, but said they have complained
to Mr Wild (Kevin Wilde, director of greyhound stadia for the
track's owners William Hill) on numerous occasions about this
device, but they will not listen.............."
".............it happened at Hove recently. One of Brian Clemenson's
dogs was the victim............."
"Someone explain to me why they have these boxes. Is it just
to prolong the life of the windsock? I do hope not, as these must
cost about £3 to make. Does not really justify just one
dog getting hurt. Or is it to save paying a person to put a box
on the hare? Either way the dogs loose out yet again!"
"I can
confirm this box is still in use at Hove, after Brian's bitch
was caught in this contraption........"

"Went
to the racing tonight and had a nice night although packed. Everything
swell until the last race!
WHAT
A DEBACLE! with the money corals make on the night why cant they
employ 3 more track staff instead of 3 more fkin waitresses! Baby
quest broke down badly at the first bend of a six bend race, but
she continued with a bad injury in tortoise like fashion for 4
bends until she was rescued. Now i dont know about anyone else
but the sight of that dog in agony and trying to run when it cant
is too much. All the six packers wouldnt give a shit and also
obviously corals brighton and hove stadium, because, their morals
and beliefs are alike. So im confused as whether the dogs welfare
outnumbers our six pack friends. Obviously it does not,and i feel
that tonight is true proof of the priorities in our sport.Truth
is corals cannot be bothered to have track staff on any bend trained
enough to deal with an injured dog,but soon got 5 waitresses there
to take back cold custard!
I
for one thought hove was probably the best track at dealing with
instances like this, but i am afraid its just as bad as the rest.
i would even say that if a dog is running around with a busted
leg they should stop the hare but money is obviously bigger than
life for these dirty gangsters."
