"I went to Swansea greyhound track a few months ago to attend
a charity event. The greyhounds that were there were in absolute
terrible condition. They were covered in sores and so thin.
Later in the day they were being auctioned off and some were going
for £20. If I had the money I would have brought them all.
A few nice people did rescue some that day but then what happens
to the others?
I found out that the dogs had came over from Ireland and had been
transported in tiny cages one on top of the other. I saw six cages
in a van, but there would have been six more behind these and
so on.
A lot of people were upset by seeing all this, but when we asked
about the dogs, we just got told that they should have been there
the day before.
I'm glad the dogs turned up a day late because otherwise people
wouldn't have any idea about what really happens at greyhound
tracks.
Since that day I have been helping the greyhound welfare charity
in South Wales by raising money, but the thing is more dogs like
the ones I saw will be coming over to the UK every week and ending
up at Swansea and other tracks."
